Maison V

Frequently asked questions

Travel planning, fees & booking benefits.

What does Maison V do?

Maison V is a travel planner and advisor. We plan bespoke journeys from the first conversation to the finished itinerary: where to stay, how to get around, what to experience, and how all the pieces fit together. We can design an entire journey, or help with the parts where our knowledge and relationships make the greatest difference. We organise group trips around specific themes and sell them as an end to end experience. We also do single hotel bookings.

Which destinations do you specialise in?

France and Japan are our home ground, and we design for a small number of select destinations beyond them. Wine and sake run through much of what we do, alongside gastronomy, design and craftsmanship, skiing and hot springs. If a destination sits outside the places we know well, we will let you know and use our experience, expertise and trusted network to inform our work.

Do I need to have my trip figured out before I enquire?

No. Tell us a little about where you want to go, what matters to you and how you like to travel, and we will arrange an initial conversation to shape the brief. There is no need to build the itinerary before you contact us. That is where we can help and what our paid services are for. We can also do single hotel bookings if that is all you need.

How does it work, from enquiry to journey?

Once we receive your enquiry, we will schedule a short conversation and short questionnaire about how you travel: the places you love, your accommodation preferences, pace, interests, existing loyalty programmes and credit card benefits and where appropriate general budget guidance. We then establish the high level brief and agree the scope and fee in writing, so you know what we will deliver and who is responsible for each component. From there we design the journey, refine it with you up to 3 rounds of amendments, and arrange what is included in our scope and provide you the guidance to do what is in yours.

How much does travel design cost?

Our design fees start at $250 for Essential Trip Design, for straightforward trips such as accommodation and basic planning. Considered Journey Design starts at $500, for more involved itineraries with multiple stops or a wider range of experiences. Complex Journey Design starts at $750, for intricate routing, extended journeys or more substantial coordination. Fees reflect planning effort and agreed scope, not simply trip length, and the proposed fee and deliverables are confirmed in writing before we begin. Travel purchases (hotels, transport, experiences and the rest) are separate fees payable by you.

When do I pay the planning fee, and is it refundable?

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, the planning fee is payable in full before full planning work commences. Because the fee covers research, expertise and itinerary development, it is generally non-refundable once work has begun. If you cancel before work begins, any refund follows the cancellation terms in your accepted proposal. The full wording is in our Terms and Conditions.

Can you book just a hotel for me?

Yes. You do not need to commission a complete itinerary to ask about a hotel booking, and there is no minimum booking value or minimum stay. We can help with recommendations, room categories and comparisons between properties for those properties which are on our travel advisor platform, Fora. Where a request involves substantial research or complex coordination, a separate planning or concierge fee may apply, and we would agree it in writing before starting.

What booking benefits can I get through Maison V?

On eligible preferred-partner bookings, benefits that we have access to via Fora can include upgrades, hotel credits, breakfast, and early check-in or late check-out subject to availability. Your stay may become extra special with perks and upgrades, but benefits are always subject to the offer terms and availability, and are only guaranteed once the supplier confirms them. Tell us about any loyalty memberships, points or status you hold when you enquire, and we will factor them in. We cannot guarantee that benefits can be combined.

Can I book parts of the trip myself?

Yes. Many clients enjoy researching and booking parts of a trip themselves, or have points and benefits that make better sense in their own hands. Together we agree who handles each component, what the planning fee includes, and where the best overall value and experience lie. Where you book independently, you stay responsible for confirming and paying for those arrangements, and for checking they line up with the wider itinerary and that you are clear on their terms and conditions.

How many revisions are included?

Each travel design package includes up to three rounds of revisions to the proposed itinerary. A revision round is one consolidated set of feedback from you and one corresponding revision from us, so it helps to gather feedback from everyone travelling into a single response. Further rounds, or substantial changes to the original brief, may incur an additional fee, which we would explain and agree with you before proceeding.

What is a Provenance Session?

A Provenance Session is a place-specific experience curated to bring a region to life: a special dinner, a sake or wine encounter, a meeting with a maker, or a workshop rooted in local tradition. Sessions sit at the heart of our Guided Journeys, and many private journeys pair the right place to stay with one too.

What are Guided Journeys?

Guided Journeys are small-group trips built around a region, an interest or a story: Burgundy through its producers and villages, Champagne through its makers and landscape, or Japan through sake, food, traditional hospitality and craftsmanship. We intend to offer a limited number each year, each with its own itinerary, dates and pricing, published once confirmed. You can register your interest on the Guided Journeys page.

Who is behind Maison V?

Maison V is operated by Maison V Group LLC, a limited liability company registered in Delaware, USA, and Maison V is powered by Fora Travel. The Directors are Tracey Delaney, and Lachlin Miller. Between us we bring deep experience of Japan and France, wine and sake scholarship, and years in hospitality and service brands.
